Chart of the month
The gap between exports from and imports to China continues to widen in the eurozone. This has prompted the EU to place greater political focus on reducing dependence on foreign suppliers and addressing the decline of manufacturing. Particular attention is being paid to strategically important sectors such as electric vehicles and batteries, where Europe has now clearly fallen behind in terms of global export share. In response, the EU has introduced the Industrial Accelerator Act, which, among other measures, provides for a “Made in EU” criterion in public procurement as well as stricter requirements for foreign
direct investment.
